June - Cerus is wound up and its assets and liabilities are transferred to CIR International through a bid made for the shares of Cerus which are then cancelled from the listing of the Paris Bourse
Compulsory conversion of CIR privileged and savings shares into ordinary shares (at par with no adjustment, 1 ordinary share for each privileged and savings share). The savings shares are then cancelled from the listing on December 20, 2000.
CIR, through CIR International, invests in the telecommunication company H3G who in October 2000 was assigned one of five licenses issued for third generation mobile telephone services.
Sogefi filter plant in Holland
Sogefi acquires from the Valeo group 100% of the activities of the French group Filtrauto, the number three producer of vehicle filters in Europe.
Year end - Application for arbitration proceedings filed by Hutchinson 3G Italia and Hutchison Whampoa against Cirtel International (100% CIR) over a different interpretation of contractual clauses relating to the repayment of shareholder loans made in December 2000 totalling 373.3 million.
Energia obtains the authorization from the Ministry of Production Activities for the construction of its first power generating plant in Termoli.
November - Energia Italiana (62% Energia) acquires 50%, as does the company Eblacea (70% Electrabel and 30% Acea), of Tirreno Power (formerly Interpower), the third ENEL Genco to be privatized.
Healthcare technologies managed by KOS
Start up of the activities of the company HSS-Holding Sanità e Servizi (now KOS), a new initiative in the private healthcare sector in Italy.
April - The Law Court of Milan gives its verdict in the "Lodo Mondadori" trial, confirming the charges brought by the prosecution according to which control of the Mondadori Group, which in 1990 was firmly in the hands of CIR, was removed after a verdict recognized by the Court as the result of corruption.
May - Standard & Poor's gives CIR a long-term credit rating of "BBB-" December - Work begins on the construction of a greenfield combined cycle power generating plant in Termoli by the Energia group.
May - Verbund, CIR's Austrian partner in the Energia group, subscribes to a capital increase for Energia of € 150 million with the aim of contributing to the development of the company's industrial plans. After this transaction the implied value of Energia is approximately € 880 million December - The Paris Arbitration Tribunal issues its ruling according to which Hutchison 3G Italia must repay to Cirtel International € 373. 3 million plus interest calculated at 4.7% per annum starting from December 1, 2001. On December 23 Cirtel International is paid the amount of € 469.6 million for its receivables, including interest, and for the sale to the Hutchison group of the stake of 1.6% that it held in the capital of Hutchison 3G Italia.
December - The Editoriale L'Espresso Group acquires 100% of the national television broadcaster Rete A.
September - A new investment is made in a business sector considered to be of potential interest; that of non-performing loans. The company Jupiter Finance is set up with the object of acquiring and managing portfolios of such loans.
An “Anni Azzurri” (KOS) residence for the elderly
April - Carlo De Benedetti is appointed Chairman of Gruppo Editoriale L'Espresso.
June - HSS acquires 100% of Anni Azzuri, the company specializing in the construction and management of residences for the elderly and present in four regions with eleven residences and 1,600 beds.
July - The Energia Group takes the new name of Sorgenia, with the aim of giving greater value to its positioning and to the role that it wishes to play in the free electricity and gas market in Italy and defining itself as a provider sensitive to environmental issues.
January - CIR invests with Merrill Lynch in Oakwood Financial Investments, the international specialty finance group .
April - Morgan Stanley signs a share capital increase in HSS-Holding Sanità e Servizi, thus acquiring a 10% stake in the company.
July - HSS acquires 100% of the S. Stefano Group, leader for the Marche region in rehabilitation both in-hospital and and out of hospital services and care. This deal enables HSS to reach a total of 4,600 beds managed.
In the second half of the year the crisis in the financial markets, especially in the subprime sector, affects the Oakwood Group. A write-down of 64.5 million euros is accounted for in the 2007 CIR financial statements.
December - Sorgenia acquires 99.9% of the capital of Société Francaise d'Eoliennes (SFE), the number two wind energy operator in France.

June - CIR and Verbund reach an agreement involving the subscription by the Austrian partner, to two capital increases in Sorgenia between 2008 and 2009 for a total of 350 million euros. In the same month CIR and the Morgan Stanley funds subscribe to a capital increase in HSS for 40 million euros.
September - Gruppo Espresso's chief executive, Marco Benedetto, is to leave the company as of January 1, 2009. The Board of Directors appoints Monica Mondardini as new chief executive and general manager.
October - The Board of Directors of CIR decides to cancel the proposed spin-off put forward in July of the media businesses from the other industrial businesses of the group, in view of the worsening economic scenario and the fact that not all its stakeholders are fully in agreement. Meanwhile the group continues to grow in healthcare and through HSS acquires the Cardinal Ferrari rehabilitation center at Fontanellato (PR).
Stefano Micossi Chairman of CIR
April - Carlo De Benedetti resigns the position of chairman of CIR after 33 years. The Shareholders' Meeting acclaims him as honorary chairman of the company. The new chairman is Stefano Micossi.
June - Verbund finalizes a capital increase of 150 million euro in Sorgenia. CIR remains the controlling shareholder of the company with a stake of 51.85%.
September - Giuseppe Vailati Venturi is appointed chief executive of Holding Sanità e Servizi. Vailati Venturi takes over from Piero Micossi, founder of the company, who died prematurely at the beginning of August.
October - In the Lodo Mondadori case, the first degree ruling of the Milan Law Court upholds CIR's right to compensation from Fininvest for patrimonial damage, for the sum of approximately 750 million euro.
December - Sorgenia and eleven of the most representative consumers associations in Italy sign an agreement to settle disputes amicably. Holding Sanità e Servizi changes its name to KOS.
January - Sorgenia's second CCGT (Combined Cycle Gas Turbine) plant starts operating in Modugno (Bari)
June - Sogefi's new plant for filter manufacturing starts operating in the United States
