Giampio Bracchi

Director

Giampio Bracchi graduated cum laude in Electronic Engineering from the Milan Polytechnic in 1967, and then completed his studies in the field of corporate innovation and computer systems at the University of California, Berkeley. Since 1967 he has had a university career with the Milan Polytechnic where he has been full professor (professore ordinario) of “Information Systems” since 1980. From 1990 to 2002 he held the position of Executive Deputy Chancellor (pro-rettore delegato); since 2002 he has been President of the Foundation of the Polytechnic of Milan. He has been involved in institutional lecturing in the field of information technology applied to companies and the public administration and in the field of financial innovation. He has conducted various studies, research and implementation projects in the field of innovation, computer systems and e-commerce, the results of which have been published in 15 books and 200 Italian and international scientific journals.

He is currently member of the Board of Directors of several industrial and financial companies, including Banca Intesa (of which he is Deputy Chairman), Associazione Bancaria Italiana and CIR he is Chairman of Intesa Private Banking, Autostrade Milano Serravalle-Milano Tangenziali and RDB. In the innovative finance sector he is member of the Board of Directors of CDB Webtech and Technostart and Chairman of AIFI, the Italian association of private equity and venture capital funds.

He is a member of the Scientific Council of the Italian Encyclopaedia Treccani, Chairman of the commission for assessing e-government projects for the Department of innovation and technology of the Prime Minister’s Office, and coordinator of the annual report on the Italian financial system published by the Rosselli Foundation.

He has been an advisor for the Prime Minister’s Office, with a special mandate for reorganizing and automating the public sector, a member of the Technical-Scientific Committee of the National Fund for Applied Research and of the Planning Committee of the Lombardy Region. He has also been a member of the Board of Directors of INPS, CARIPLO, Teknecomp, Sorin Biomedica and Finlombarda Gestioni SGR, Chairman of Intesa Leasing and of Istituto Scientifico Breda, Deputy Chairman of Lombardia Informatica and member of the Technical-Scientific Committee of Centrale dei Bilanci.

He is a Trustee Emeritus of the Very Large Data Bases Foundation of Los Angeles, and member of the Information Systems Committee of the International Federation for Information Processing, of which he was also world Chairman for a long period.

He is or has been a member of the Editorial Committees of the international magazines "Information Systems", "Information and Management" and "Decision Support Systems", and has contributed to the newspapers "Il Sole-24 Ore" and “Corriere della Sera” and the periodicals "L'Impresa", "Mondo economico" and "Tempo Economico".
